Course Title Adult Introduction to Cookery

Description This course is designed for beginners and intermediates who wish to prepare fresh, tasty traditional dishes. Learners will successfully use a wide range of spices and herbs; each week learners will prepare meat, fish, chicken, pasta, pulse and vegetable dishes as well as accompaniments and soups. Students will learn how to prepare ingredients and make basic sauces and demonstrate traditional cooking techniques. Learners will learn how to boil, fry, steam, stew etc.Learners will also prepare a variety of dessert dishes as part of the course.

Students will also learn a variety of cutting and food preparation techniques, with various hand held and electronic food preparation utensils. After starting with a simple dish, students will progress to more advanced dishes. This course will equip the student with the necessary aspirations and skills to produce their own traditional dishes and menus. This course will increase student's awareness of traditional Cookery skills and preparation methods.

This course is suitable for anyone wishing to gain experience in basic and intermediate cookery skills predominantly aimed at those seeking a career / progression in the catering industry. The course provides an insight to food nutrition, balanced diets, food on a budget, safe food handling and storage along with the associated personal and food hygiene measures that the catering industry implement for the purposes of cook safe, eat safe and other industry recognised quality assurance systems.

Learners require to bring ingredients for each class. The tutor will provide an ingredients list on a weekly basis. CUS logo Salad
