Caskieberran Primary School is located in Glenrothes at the western end of the town. The school opened in 1969 to serve the growing local community as the New Town became established. Most of the area is residential, consisting mainly of local authority housing with one private estate. There is not a great deal of movement in population and no room for further development.

There are 14 classrooms, 7 of which are used by pupils from P1 to P7, 2 for the Nursery which caters for up to 30/30 places and 1 is used by an After-School Club run by Fife Childcare Strategy. Classes have access to generous resource areas and a computer suite, which allows for a flexible approach. The main hall has a stage and is used for PE and Drama. The Dining area is set up in one half of the hall. The playground, which is hard-surfaced, is mainly to the back of the building where there is also a large grassy area for use by the older children. The infant playground is separate and there is a large open quadrangle which is used mainly by the Nursery.

Our last HMIE inspection praised the very good ethos of our school as well as the pupils, for their behaviour, courtesy and motivation. Our aim is that all our pupils achieve the very best they can in a supportive environment where staff, parents and pupils work together as a consistent team.

The school benefits from the services of Visiting Teachers of Art, Music, Drama and Physical Education. In addition, there are Music Instructors for violin and cello. We have 0.8 FTE Learning Support.

Our Pupil Council is well established and regularly involved in discussing concerns and proposals for change. The School Board and PTA have recently disbanded with the Caskieberran Parent Partnership taking over this session. The Parent Partnership will be involved in running School discos for the children and school fairs.

The school has a Computer Club and a Running Club as well as football training. All P4s begin to learn to play the recorder and this is carried on through the school. The staff and pupils actively participate in the Fife Music Festival and in the Creative and Scottish Country Dance Festivals.

Children in P7 meet up with the children from our Area Group at Belmont Camp in Meigle before starting S1 at High School.

We strongly believe in working in partnership with parents and welcome all to our school to support the children in any way we can.
