Lochgelly South Primary was built in 1911 and is part of the Lochgelly High School cluster group. The school is of a traditional design with all but two of our classes facing into the large main hall which is a multi-purpose area used for PE, drama, dance, gymnastics, after-school activities and school assemblies. Currently, there are 7 classrooms from P1-7, a dining room which is also used as a quiet-noisy/TV/Nursery PE room and ICT work area. There is a resource room which has also been developed as a staff learning centre. Our Nursery has a capacity of 18/18 and currently has a roll of 35. Our nursery children enjoy a wide experience both in nursery and the local community.

Access is gained through a security entry system at the main entrance where visitors are welcomed by office staff in the reception area.

The school has a substantial playground with lots of space to move around. There is also an environmental area to the rear of the school. The garden to the front of the school is being developed for both nursery and school use. There are also plans to further develop the outdoor play area.

Our school has a very positive ethos providing a relevant, differentiated and challenging curriculum where achievement is just as important as attainment. We clearly value true partnership between staff, pupils, parents and the local community

Visiting music teachers offer provision for the tutoring of Cello, piano and chanter. We also have a Learning Support Teacher three days a week.

We embrace change in Lochgelly South and at the moment are moving ahead quickly in the area of Information Communication Technology. We not only focus on the teaching of ICT related skills but are using the technology to raise attainment in maths and language using 'Success Maker'. We now have a smartboard in all classes from P1-7.

Our school life extends to a very full and varied After School Programme which is run 'in-house' by members of staff. We offer, rugby, netball, gymnastics, football, S.A.S. and ICT clubs. The children take part in related festivals during and out of school hours.

Operating an 'open door' policy, we are always pleased to meet with parents to discuss any aspects of our school.
