Newport Library & Heritage Centre

The Library in Newport was relaunched as Newport Library and Heritage Centre in February 2009. There is now a dedicated area for heritage displays on the history of the Newport and Wormit area.  On show are objects and photographs looking at a range of topics such as transport across the Tay, local sports & leisure and the world wars.

These heritage displays have been integrated within the library to create a facility which will appeal to both locals and visitors to the area.

The library area has was extended and opened up to include the ex Local Services office and the whole space has been completely modernised.  The front door is now power assisted making access to the building much easier than before.

The refurbishment brought the benefits of improved heating, lighting, carpeting and decoration as well as up to date shelving and furniture with the children’s area, in particular, much improved. There are soft seats where customers can relax, read a book or simply enjoy a hot drink from the drinks machine.

There are two public use computers, which provide free access to Microsoft Office packages and the Internet. I.T. Taster sessions can be arranged- please ask staff for further information.

A reading group for youngsters 10-14 years old meets monthly: again, please ask the staff for details. There are occasional story times and activities for children.
