Beath High School has possessed a secure corner in the community life of West Fife for over ninety years. It opened its doors in 1910 as Beath Higher Grade School providing particularly for those pupils who were hoping to progress to Higher Education. Today Beath is a non-denominative co-educational school which serves the town of Cowdenbeath and the surrounding area. Beath continues to develop, as it always has, and moved into a new building 2003.
As you can imagine the new school offers state of the art accommodation for all pupils and staff including an all weather pitch.
Our aim in Beath is to create and foster an ethos where all youngsters feel valued and where all are encouraged to achieve their full potential. Indeed HM Inspectors of Schools noted the 'ethos of the school was very good' and that 'staff and pupils identified closely and proudly with the school'. The school s very good links with parents and the wider community was also praised and this has been further recognised with the award of the Schools Curriculum Award.
We also have in place a number of initiatives to try and raise expectations and attainment across the school. Pupils are able to achieve certificates for good attendance and are also able to achieve praise awards which recognise hard work and positive behaviour in class.
Overall, and again in the words of HM Inspectors of Schools, Beath High School provides a very good quality of education for its pupils. Under highly effective leadership it is making intensive efforts to improve attainment and expectations. Approaches include engaging in rigorous self evaluation, directing the attention of staff, parents and pupils to raising attainment and actively seeking to improve pupils behaviour and attitudes. Many of these are showing clear signs of success.
