Tanshall Primary School is located in the West of Glenrothes with a catchment area serving the immediate area of Tanshall. The school opened in 1969 to cater for the families moving into what was then a new town.

In recent years the housing stock has changed dramatically and the precict is now part of a regeneration programme.   The school building contains 16 spacious and well-equipped classrooms, dining area, ICT suite, music/resource room as well as office accommodation.  At present 9 rooms are used for mainstream classes, 2 rooms for Behaviour Support and  1 room for CH@T and 2 rooms for nursery.  The nursery is attached to the main school building, benefiting from all of the facilities that we have to offer. The school has extensive grounds, including a tarmac area and grassed areas that are in use especially during the summer months for many out door activities.

Our aim is to create a learning environment that enables each child to achieve individual merit and success. We promote good work habits, valuing a child’s attainments and achievements both as an individual and as a valued member of a class. We endeavour to provide a safe and caring family atmosphere, welcoming children, parents and staff and fostering links with the community. The school community is proud of the support and encouragement that is given to all our pupils. We aim to achieve the highest standards in all that we do while supporting a culture of inclusion.

The GABS (Glenrothes Area Behaviour Service) centre is based within our school and offers support to all the scools in  Cental Fife .  Education is enhanced by regular visits from visiting  Drama, P.E and Art specialists. The school has a full time Learning Support Service.

Pupils from the various classrooms meet regularly as part of the Pupil Council to discuss issues raised by the pupils and staff. The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities that include football, cookery and dance club.  A residential week is offered to all primary seven pupils as part of the secondary transition programme during the final year at primary school.

We work in partnership with parents and our door is always open to discuss any aspects of our work or the particular needs of individual children.
