Markinch Primary School is situated in the village of Markinch near Glenrothes. Although the original village has grown we are still very much a close community. The school is situated within a well established residential area and although there are no playing fields or grass area within the school grounds, good use is made of the John Dixon park and the multi-sport facility adjacent to it.
The accommodation comprises 11 classrooms on two floors, a large assembly hall with stage, a multi-media room, and an office. Our large assembly hall is also used for P.E./Drama and as a dining hall. We also have a nursery situated within the building. This was opened in November 2006.
Our aim at Markinch is for happy children who all have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Children who are confident, independent, reflective and equipped to become responsible citizens. Children who are developing as life-long learners. Our school motto is Maximising Potential and Success
To achieve the above we believe that it is important for school and parents/carers to work together to ensure that the children receive the best possible education. Parents/carers are kept involved through their child's own Personal Learning Plans, parent information sharing events and regular newsletters.
From P4 the children have the opportunity to play the cello and recorder. We regularly attend the annual Fife Music and Dance Festivals.
There are very good links with parents and the community and the school has an active and supportive Parents' Association. There are good links with outside agencies, our associated primary schools and Auchmuty High School to which the majority of pupils transfer after P7.
The school has access to after school care through MASK Markinch After School Klub, which is held in the Town Hall opposite the school.
We hope you and your child will enjoy the experiences offered at Markinch.
