April 2010
Dear Parents and Carers
As we head into a busy last term preparations are underway for the transition of our pre-school children into school and preparing for our new summer intake. The last of this years intake have all started and settled in. Pre school PLPs are being finalised and prepared for handing over at the end of the nursery term.
Fund Raising
Our Easter singalong raised just over £350. The money has been spent on new resources to enhance our provision.
Jackets/Suncream
We will try to have the children playing outdoors as often as we can. Could we please remind parents to provide jackets or jumpers as the weather is still a little temperamental. Can we also remind parents and carers that we are unable to provide or apply sunscreen. If the weather is sunny please make sure sunscreen is applied before your child comes to nursery. We will provide sunhats and plenty of drinks (water or milk).
Play at Home Bags
We will be starting to send home the Play at Home bags. These contain some sporting equipment for you and your child to play with. They will be given out on the Friday and should be returned on the following Monday.
Centenary Celebrations
There are various events planned to mark the centenary of the school (Torryburn Primary rather than the building which has been around for longer!) More information will follow. The Parent council is organising a trip for the whole school and nursery to visit the safari park. This will mean a whole day attendance for all our nursery children. We will provide snacks and lunch for the nursery children. We will also need a lot of parent helpers. If you are able to help out please complete the helper slip and return it to nursery as soon as possible.
The school has produced a lovely book with an example of writing from every school child. This will be available to order.
Pick Up Times
We understand that you may be delayed from time to time but we have noticed that we are being left with a group of children after the official end of each session. Can we remind you that the morning session finishes at 11.30 and all children should have been picked up by then. We then have to evaluate the morning session, meet with other members of the school staff, set up the nursery for the afternoon and have our lunch. The afternoon session finishes at 3.15 and again all children should have been picked up by then as we have to evaluate the afternoon, prepare for the morning session, attend staff meetings and plan activities all within 45 minutes.
Nursery Sports Day
We intend to have our nursery sports day on Monday 14th June. In the case of bad weather it will be the next fine day. More information will follow later.
Parent Interviews
Parent interviews will be available for our pre-school parents soon. This is an opportunity to meet with your child’s key worker to discuss progress before moving to school. A booking sheet will be put up soon. A transition meeting has been arranged for 26th May. This will be for parents of children who are coming into P1 next session. More details will follow soon.
End of Term
The last day of nursery will be on Thursday 1st July. There will be a short celebration to mark the end of our Pre-Schoolers nursery time to which all parents and carers are invited. More information will follow nearer the time.
