Purpose of consultation
Apart from some initiatives promoted by local authorities, there are two national environmental campaigns in operation at present.
“It’s Your Neighbourhood”and “Beautiful Scotland” are campaigns linked to the Britain in Bloom campaign run by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Both campaigns have three pillars:
- Horticultural Achievement (Gardening)
- Environmental Responsibility
- Community
The “It’s Your Neighbourhood” campaign is non-competitive and focuses mainly on Community, whereas the “Beautiful Scotland” campaign has Horticulture at it’s centre.
There is some discussion about creating an additional campaign which may help promote excellent Neighbourhood entries, and may fit better some of the communities that currently participate in local authority initiatives but don’t feel that they are ready for “Beautiful Scotland”.
