NHS Fife Library Service
Library
Anyone working with the population of Fife on health and wellbeing issues can access this service. We provide a variety of specialist and general collections.
SHELCAT – Library Catalogue
You can search our catalogue – SHELCAT (http://shelcat.org) online and request books and other items held in NHS Fife libraries as well as partner libraries elsewhere in Scotland. Copies of journal articles can also be requested using SHELCAT (http://shelcat.org) although the first port of call should always be the Knowledge Network (http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk).
You first need to register with one of the libraries before you can use the loans or requesting services. For the libraries’ contact details and membership form, see the NHS Fife Libraries website (www.nhsfife.org/libraryservices).
Literature searching
We offer a literature searching service. Contact one of the librarians for assistance.
NHS Scotland Knowledge Network
The NHS Scotland Knowledge Network (http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk) provides access to major bibliographic databases such as Medline, CINAHL, and Social Services Abstracts; thousands of journals in full-text; hundreds of electronic books; as well as acting as a gateway to quality assured resources in health and social care.
You will need an ATHENS password to get into most of the resources on the Knowledge Network. Register on the Knowledge Network (http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk) homepage. It is best if this is done on an NHS computer. Once you have your username and password, resources can be used on any computer with Internet access.
Information Skills Training
Individual or group sessions on using the Knowledge Network and literature searching can be arranged by contacting one of the librarians.
