Being active means doing any form of exercise. For example, you can be active by doing any of these:
  • dancing
  • playing a sport
  • going for a walk
  • going to the gym.

How do you know if you’re doing enough?

While you’re doing your activity, try talking to someone:
  • If you can feel your heart beating but can still keep up a conversation, you’re doing about right. This is called moderate physical activity.
  • If you’re gasping for breath you’re working too hard
  • But if you’re able to sing you’re not working hard enough!

Adults should be trying to achieve 30 minutes of moderate activity on most days of the week while children should be achieving 60 minutes of moderate activity each day of the week.

Why be active?

Doing the right amount of activity for just half an hour a day benefits your body and mind – so it makes you feel good all over! It can help keep your heart healthy – and works wonders alongside small changes to your eating and lifestyle.
