Route Description
This route is 9 miles in total. There are some hilly stretches. Suitable for Adults and older children. This route is fun for all. The route begins in Cairneyhill and takes you through Crossford, now a commuter town for Dunfermline. You can make a detour to visit the model village and harbour of Charlestown. Part of the route takes you along the off road West Fife Cycle Way which follows the former Dunfermline to Alloa railway.
You can cycle this route in either direction, but we suggest you follow the guidelines below to travel in a clockwise direction.
1.8 miles (2.9 km) Head towards Dunfermline along Cairneyhill Main Street and then turn left at the Cycle Ways sign along Pitdinnie Road.

1.2 miles (1.9 km) Join the West Fife Cycle Way just before the old railway bridge and turn right. You can follow the guidelines for this route which are included in this leaflet.

1.3 miles (2.1 km) Take care crossing the A994 through Crossford.

3.3 miles (5.3 km) Turn off the route to visit Charlestown where the remains of the limekilns can be seen near the shore.
Follow the new cycle route alongside the A985 and the minor road signposted back to Cairneyhill.
