Invasive species

Giant hogweed

Giant hogweed

Our countryside is being invaded!

Alien invaders are marching through our countryside - some are giants, some have toxic juice, some are pretty but all pose a threat to our environment.

The first step in getting to grips with the problem involves identifying where these non-native invasive species are - and this is where you can help.

The main ones we are looking for are

  • Japanese Knotweed
  • Giant Hogweed
  • Himalayan Balsam
  • American Mink
  • Signal Cray Fish

All are present in Fife, but we just don’t know where?

There are identification help sheets and background information on the Non Native Species Secretariat webpage

If you see any of these species please let us know by completing one of our Biological Recording forms or by entering your sighting at the RAFTS webpage.
