Moving to a new workstyle
What is the process for becoming a Mobile, Flexible or Home Worker?
Whichever work style you are moving to some core common processes will happen involving the group of staff/job profile to which you belong.
Every job role in the Council has already been ‘profiled’ to determine if it broadly falls in to the category of Mobile, Flexible, Home or Flexible in Team Zone.
However, in determining that a specific group of staff is coming into the Programme, this will be re-validated and you and/or your colleagues are likely to be involved in some or all of the following activities-
- Engagement around opportunities/ideas for use of technology – hardware and software
- Day in the Life Of (DILO) - a diary exercise where your daily activities are recorded over a 10 day period
- Business analysis around working practices and procedures
- Process mapping
- Process improvement/lean events
- Information briefings
A project plan team will be set up and communication plans put in place to ensure that you are kept informed of developments, progress and timescales.
Training will be provided for staff and for managers via an e-learning package and where appropriate face to face ; this will give workers a clearer idea of what working with technology and with a lighter touch on office accommodation, actually means for them as individuals.
There will also be specific tailored training on use of technology, depending on what you are provided with, including use of ‘kit’ ( laptop, notebook, tablet, blackberry etc) any new software and collaborative and common working tools.
A wide range of support and infrastructure has been provided on a corporate basis and briefings and training on these will be available as appropriate to your particular project. Eg. FAQs, HR guidance, Health and Safety guidance, booking hot desks, working in a flexible working environment, using collaborative tools such as instant messaging etc.
You will also be given information on what is expected of you and what you can expect in terms of systems, support, management etc.
