Fife Institute closed on 2 July 2012 to make way for a replacement brand new facility transforming it into a modern state of the art leisure centre.

The new leisure centre offers a 25m x 17m 8 lane competition swimming pool with a spectating gallery for 250 people, a 20m x 10m training pool with underwater movable floor, a 11m x 5m teaching/remedial pool and a modern wetside change area with adjoining health suite.

 
Dryside facilities include a gym with 80 stations, strength and conditioning studio, purpose built aerobics studio, regional standard 8 badminton court sports hall and 2 squash courts.
 
Outdoor facilities include an 11 a side synthetic pitch, three 5 a side 3G synthetic pitches, a 7 a side 3G synthetic pitch and an athletics track upgrade.

When did it open?

 

The Michael Woods Sports & Leisure Centreopened on Monday 22 July 2013. It is managed by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust  on behalf of Fife Council. You can find out more about what is on offer at the facility here on call them directly on 01592 583305.

 

 

 

How much did it cost?

Fife Council has invested £21.1 million into the new facility. The project was also awarded a grant of £1.5 m from sportscotland’s Sports Facilities Fund (links to external website).

What does the new facility offer?

 
Indoor facilities:
  • 25m x 17m 8 lane short course competition swimming pool with pool side spectating for 250 people
  • 20m x 10m training pool with an underwater, movable floor
  • 11.5m x 5m teaching/remedial pool
  • Accessible family wet side changing facilities
  • Purpose built health suite with sauna and steam room, located near the pool area
  • 80 station gym with the latest range of cardiovascular, resistance and free weights equipment
  • Athlete performance strength and conditioning suite
  • Purpose-built aerobics studio
  • New regional standard 8 court sports hall
  • Two squash courts
  • Dryside changing facilities to service both indoor and outdoor activities
  • Two multi purpose activity rooms
  • Meeting room
  • Cafe
