Social Work Accommodation with care and support review 2012
Published: Tuesday 21 Feb 2012 by Fife Council
Adult services has begun a review of the support given to adults with disabilities in Fife. The purpose of this review is to improve services both now and in the future. It is essential that Service Users and their families are actively engaged in the process, as it is their interests that are paramount and at the very heart of all we do.
The work we will be doing will not only involve looking at the current support Service Users receive in Accommodation with Care and Housing Support but also about planning for future Service Users which includes young people coming through our education system, Service Users with complex needs living at home and Service Users living at home with elderly carers.
The purpose of this section is to keep you informed of the review’s progress and how everyone’s involvement will help to shape services for the future.
Over the next few months Service Users, family/carers and staff will be asked to tell us what they feel they value about the service they currently receive and what we need to do to ensure that any services in the future maintain the principles of:
- Being able to meet individual need,
- Are community based
- Are flexible and responsive
- Promote independence
- Are cost effective
The review will help to make sure that we meet the needs of Service Users over the next ten years, while ensuring best value and cost effectiveness.
Over the last 20 years the services available to people with disability have changed significantly. There has been a major shift in culture and attitude which has for example enabled people living in long stay hospitals to be resettled into their own houses, hold down employment, take part in leisure and recreation in their own community and make choices on a day-to-day basis about their lifestyle. By looking at the options for future services we can continue on this journey to help people live as independently as possible and develop services which are sustainable in the long term.
It is our intention to update this area after each meeting of the Options Appraisal Board who are leading on the project and to upload a newsletter giving you the latest news.
Frequently asked questions and answers have been uploaded to this section to help with any queries but if you have any questions, suggestions or comments about the review please contact Susan Brown, Project Manager (details below).
Feedback forms are also available for staff, families, carers and service users to fill in.
