FIFE Council has welcomed the news that local company Burntisland Fabrications Ltd (BiFab) has secured another major contract.
The £47m contract is for the design and production of four jackets, complete with piles weighing 8000 tonnes in total.
Councillor Kay Carrington, executive member for Fife Council’s business, enterprise, economy and planning said:
“This is fantastic news for BiFab and even more so as it is on the back of the £140m contract announced last week for the Energy Park in Methil. This new contract is expected to bring around 100 new jobs to the area and will involve BiFab’s manufacturing facilities in both Methil and Burntisland. This will be delivered in phases between 2014 and 2015 and there is also potential for another massive project for delivery of a 3500 tonnes accommodation and utilities module.
“BiFab has shown its commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce by continuing to strengthen its excellent apprenticeship training scheme. I hope that our young trainees in Fife can seize and exploit the opportunities that these major contracts will offer.”
“Energy Park Fife is continuing to show that it has a proven track record in delivering the biggest projects for both Renewables and Oil and Gas sectors.”
