ACROSS Fife many buildings and gardens will be opening their doors to the public again in September as part of the annual Doors Open Days event, giving you the chance to see around some of the Kingdom's finest and most interesting properties, old and new, absolutely free.

Doors Open Days, coordinated by the Council's Development Services in partnership with a number of local societies, will be taking place in Fife on three successive Sundays during September.  The programme begins on 7 September, when there will be 18 venues and events across west Fife.  Venues in central Fife will be opening on 14 September followed by those in east Fife on 21 September.

Alongside venues that have proved popular over the years there are also a number of new places to visit in this year's Doors Open Days programme including Andrew Carnegie House in Dunfermline and the Alhambra - Dunfermline's newest entertainment venue. Another new addition is Uthrogle Mill in Cupar, where two of Scotland's most famous brand names, Scott's Porridge Oats and Quaker Oats, are produced. In total, 69 venues across Fife will be open to the public.

The full programme is set out in a brochure which is now available at various outlets throughout Fife including libraries, Council offices, community centres and Tourist Information Centres.  Full details can also be found on the Fifedirect web site at www.fifedirect.org.uk

Councillor Tony Martin, Chair of the Environment, Enterprise and Transportation Committee, said: "Doors Open Day is a popular fixture in Fife's event calendar and gives people the opportunity to see some of the rich historical and architectural heritage that we are rightly proud of. It's wonderful to see new venues taking part in Doors Open Days each year. I'd like to thank the owners of all the venues for the tremendous support they give to this event and look forward to another successful programme this year."
