Never too old to have fun!
If you go down to the woods today....
TO mark this year’s National Playday and celebrate children’s right to play, the Provost of Fife, Councillor Jim Leishman went down to the woods…and was sure of a big surprise!
Fife Council’s Childcare and Early Years Service has been running an outdoor play project over the summer to enable children to experience the great outdoors, come rain, wind or shine! The children were also in for a surprise as Cllr. Leishman joined them in some tree-climbing and led a sing-sing of rousing pirate tunes!
The children, from the Levenmouth, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Cowdenbeath areas, each spent a week exploring the wonderful Falkland Estate in partnership with Falkland’s Centre for Stewardship. They had a fantastic time building dens, exploring the woods, getting muddy and playing on rope swings under the trees; all kitted out in waterproofs – this season’s must have outfit!
Mairi Ferris, Team Manager with Fife Childcare & Early Years Service, said: “The children have gained so much from being able to play freely in such a wonderful environment. This project is just one of the ways in which our service is developing quality play experiences for Fife’s children.”
Provost of Fife, Councillor Jim Leishman added: “The fun the children have been having is clear. Being able to play in open doors, no matter the weather, is an experience we should celebrate about childhood.”
After school clubs and holiday play schemes are available for all children including 11-14 year olds and children with additional support needs, where children can be looked after safely, play, learn and have fun. Clubs are held in, or near to, schools.
Charges for children to attend clubs may vary. Contact us on 01592 583145 for more details of what’s available in your area.
