Town Centre Regeneration Fund Opens

Keith Winter, Head of Development Services, welcomed the latest news released from the Scottish Government on the Town Centre Regeneration Fund. He said: “This is a great opportunity for Fife to bid for a portion of the £60 million fund to further strengthen the work we are doing to support our town centres.
“We have already been in discussions with a number of stakeholders and have started to work up some initial proposals. The next step will be developing joint applications which will deliver the most benefit for our town centres.
“Over the next week, we plan to agree how we will take this forward to maximise benefit for Fife. Obviously, we are keen to submit strong bids in both the first and second round of applications to boost Fife’s town centres.”
Jim McLeish, Team Leader - Economic Regeneration & Partnerships, added: “While this is an excellent opportunity, there will inevitably be some disappointment as with any bid process. There are 32 eligible towns here in Fife alone, so it’s not realistic to assume that all town centres will receive some of the funding. We also need to realise the short timescales of the first round of submissions. Having said that, we will certainly ensure that the bids we do submit are our strongest cases which will have the greatest possibility of securing a share of the available funding.”
The Town Centre Regeneration Fund is being made available in 2009-10 to support community and business leaders to regenerate and grow our town centres. The Scottish Government state that the funding is to help our town centres adapt to modern markets, and supply the access, mix of facilities and services, and environment that will meet the needs of local communities and businesses.
