Residents have their say on community safety progress

Archived news: published on Monday 12 Oct 2009 by Fife Council

Fife Community Safety Partnership would like your views on how you feel about crime, antisocial behaviour and other community safety issues.

From Monday 12th October, around 3000 residents will take part in a short telephone survey conducted by Fife Council’s contact centre on behalf of Fife Community Safety Partnership. This is the fourth study of its kind to be undertaken, following similar questionnaires that have been carried out every three years since 2000.

The survey will focus on how people feel about their local area in terms of crime and antisocial behaviour, and any concerns or worries they have about crime. The findings will be used to help direct community safety initiatives in local areas.

Assistant Chief Constable Andrew Barker, chair of the Community Safety Partnership Group said: “The Making Fife Safer survey has been a great tool for us over the past nine years in helping to establish priority areas and to address concerns. Alongside its role in measuring our progress towards achieving the aims of Fife’s Community Plan, previous surveys have led to successful projects, such as the ‘PLAN for your personal safety guide’, which has now been distributed to over 50,000 Fife residents, and the development of easier ways to report racial violence and harassment.

“We’re also aware of the ongoing work in local areas to improve community safety, so this study will help to measure how things may have changed over the past few years.”

A selection of residents have chosen to take part through prior correspondence with the council, but anyone can participate online at www.fifedirect.org.uk/communitysafety or by calling 08451 55 00 22.
