The major project to improve the road layout at Chapel Level in Kirkcaldy is making good progress. The redesign, which is expected to take up to 12 months, has been designed to provide better access to the many new developments in the north of the town, such as the John Smith Business Park, Muttonhall and the new wing at Victoria Hospital.

The first eight weeks of the project has seen contractors RJ McLeod remove fill material from a vacant lot at John Smith Business Park. This is being reused to form a new embankment at Hendry Road, saving the Council £400,000. Drilling and grouting work has also been going on at Tiree Place where there are old mine workings under the new road.

Work to improve Wester Bogie Roundabout is planned to start this Wednesday. This will involve widening the carriageway and adding new road markings.
The project has been designed to minimise disruption to drivers by building as many of the new roads as possible before beginning improvements to the existing carriageway.

Fife Council’s new Executive Spokesperson for Transport & Environment, Cllr. Pat Callaghan, was on site yesterday to see the road improvements for himself.

Cllr. Callaghan commented: “Whether you live in north Kirkcaldy or are a visitor to the hospital or retail park, this road redesign project will provide you with a safer, quicker and easier route to access your home or services. It’ll be particularly beneficial to pedestrians and cyclists. The £3.5million being invested in Chapel Level is in addition to the £25million that Fife Council has already invested in Kirkcaldy’s infrastructure over the last three years to improve the town’s High Street, sea wall and green corridor.”

The works to improve Chapel Level are being jointly funded by Fife Council and NHS Fife.
