Fife Council has given a warm welcome to a Scottish Government programme which offers households help with insulation, energy costs and fuel bills.
Called the Energy Assistance Package or EAP it makes important help easily available for both council tenants and private householders who are seeking assistance to pay bills.
The Energy Assistance Package offers four levels of support:
- Stage 1 - Energy advice (could save you up to £300 a year)
- Stage 2 - Benefits, tax credit checks and advice on low cost tariffs from utility companies (could save you up to £125 a year)
- Stage 3 - Insulation measures from an energy supplier
- Stage 4 - Additional insulation and heating measures such as heating systems, boiler upgrades and draught proofing
Les Brown, Housing Officer (Fuel Poverty) said the EAP also includes additional local support through ‘The Fife Save scheme’ which offers a range of potential benefits including:
- Referral for income maximisation and debt advice
- Referral for a home energy advice visit for those who are particularly vulnerable
- Referral to the Council for additional support for council tenants spending more than 10% of their income on electricity and fuel
“What you get depends on your circumstances and your local energy adviser can take you through the process. You can get advice and more information by calling 0800 512 012 (free from landlines) or texting WARM to 81025,” added Les.
He explained how the national EAP scheme has recently been changed to make more householders eligible for its four efficiency measures. This includes residential mobile homes and homes that already have some insulation.
Housing and Communities Committee Chair Councillor Brian Goodall said:”I hope as many people as possible apply for this help. There is nothing to lose by doing so.
“The benefits checks are vitally important and we as a council have a proven track record in working with our partner organisations to help people get the help they are due. In recent severe weather like we have just experienced that phone call or text to get this help could be a life-saver.”
