At its meeting today FifeCouncil has formed a new minority Labour administration.
The new council will be led by Cllr. Alex Rowley, with Cllr. David Ross as Depute. Early in proceedings Cllr. Jim Leishman was elected to serve as Provost of Fife with Cllr. Kay Morrison as Depute Provost.
Leader of Fife Council Alex Rowley said: “I’m delighted that we have now formed an administration and can get on with the job of running the council for the people of Fife.
“We are ambitious for Fife and over the next five years we’re going to do everything we can to improve the quality of life for the people we’re here to represent. Today, as a Council, we agreed it’s critical to work together and I’ll do everything I can to make sure all councillors can get involved.
“We want to lead a Council that is transparent and inclusive, putting people first.”
Depute leader David Ross echoed these sentiments saying: “We believe that more decisions should be made locally and we want to give communities more of a say in things which affect them directly.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of tackling the issues in Fife, such as youth unemployment, the housing shortage and the ever increasing demand for care services.”
New Provost Jim Leishman, said he was immensely proud to take on the role which involves acting as its civic head at ceremonial, formal and other important occasions and chairing the full Council meeting.
He said: “I’m so honoured to have been chosen for this role and will be proud to promote Fife. I’m a local boy and was lucky to have been given great opportunities as a child so I’m delighted to be part of the Council, trying to make sure others get an opportunity for a better life.”
