Green Business Fife organised a tour of Diageo’s bottling plant on Wednesday 20th July 2011.  Fife companies, Fife Group, Green Egress Solutions, UK Kwikpak, Pens of Distinction, Red Industries, Sap Service, Silberline, Fife Food Network were impressed by Diageo’s green practices and how they influence and optimise operations.

Tessa Ward, Diageo’s Environmental Manager said  “It is a really exciting and busy time for Diageo Bottling Plant in Leven with the expansion of our bottling lines. It was great to welcome Green Business Fife to our site and be able to highlight our environmental achievements to date and share how they have been achieved.  We demonstrated the successes that will really help to minimise our carbon footprint and drive our sustainability agenda forward”.

Brian Munro of Fife Group added, "Following today's visit I will be looking at implementing some of the measures Tessa has put in place to improve Fife Group's waste disposal."

Diageo has had tremendous success in reducing waste going to landfill and are currently recycling 98.5% of their waste at their Leven site.  New developments will enable them to recycle over 4,500 tonnes per year including glass, polythene, cardboard and plastics. The key to their success is employee engagement and company commitment to their ongoing green agenda.

Councillor  Tony Martin, Strategic Chair Environment, Enterprise & Transportation Committee, said “With this plant, Diageo are demonstrating that using green principles can enhance work practices without heavily compromising the financial aspect of the business. This ethos echo’s Fife Council’s green agenda.”

Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, beer and wine. These brands include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, J&B, Windsor, Buchanan's and Bushmills whiskies, Smirnoff, Ciroc and Ketel One vodkas, Baileys, Captain Morgan, Jose Cuervo, Tanqueray and Guinness.
