Members of Fife Council’s Social Work and Health Committee were updated on progress to manage fire safety for the protection of services users and staff.
A proactive approach has been taken to manage fire safety within social work buildings and to meet new fire legislation. The approach has gained national recognition and prompted other authorities to follow Fife’s lead and to purchase some of the materials created to support the improvement programme.
Mhairi Stewart, Service Manager said: ““This comprehensive piece of work shows staff and service users that their safety is a major priority for us. There are challenges to managing vulnerable people in a fire situation but the robustness of the staff training programme, development of DVDs, introduction of new evacuation techniques and equipment and collaboration with Fife Fire and Rescue Service shows how seriously we are taking this.”
Councillor Tim Brett, Chair of the Social Work and Health Committee commended the work achieved to date: "I am pleased that the hard work of Fife's Social Work team has been recognised as best practice by colleagues in other organisations. Their efforts contribute towards us achieving our priority of becoming a top performing council. Fire safety is so important and this improvement programme shows how seriously we take the safety of our service users and our employees."
