A number of local Fife businesses took advantage of a ‘Best Practice’ visit, organised by Green Business Fife, to Gaia-Wind Ltd’s small wind turbine manufacturing facility in Glasgow last week.

The visit included an overview of “Farm Scale” small and medium size turbines and an insight into successful planning applications, as well as the latest Feed in Tarriff (FiT) information.

Gaia-Wind Ltd is Scotland’s only local manufacturer and installer of small wind turbines. Originally a Danish company, Gaia-Wind is now located in Glasgow, where they manufacture and distribute their turbines worldwide.

The Gaia-Wind 133-11kW high performance turbine benefits from over 20 years Danish design experience and is ideally suited to farms, rural properties, businesses and community projects.  With a combined operational history of over 1500 years, it has a long track record of performance and is installed in over 500 sites worldwide.

During the factory visit those attending had the opportunity to see up close the turbine’s unique large two blade design which helps it to capture maximum energy from the wind.

Attending the event was Andy Hamilton of A&M Microgeneration Ltd who commented “no matter what turbulence and Feed in Tariff reviews are currently taking place, the industry still has demand.  It’s crucial to get correct and accurate research and advice in order to get the right technology for you. This visit has shown us a course of action that could speed up the planning process and shorten concept to installation times.”

The Gaia-Wind team were also on hand to offer advice on the implication of the feed-in tariff changes, and how best to approach planning applications to ensure you get your turbine into the ground by October.
