Provost Jim Leishman meets the pupils at Lochgelly South PS
FIFE Council’s new Provost Jim Leishman went back to school today when he visited children and staff at his former primary school Lochgelly South.
Provost Leishman attended the school between around 1958 and 1962 and was keen to take a trip down memory lane.
He commented: “I’ve got very fond memories of the school here – my first games of football were played in the school playground. Lochgelly was a great place to grow up – I was born just along the road so it was a short walk to school.”
Provost Leishman took part in a special assembly when pupils from P3 and P5 entertained with singing and violin playing and then visited classrooms where he met up with staff and pupils.
He added: “The teachers and kids here are part of a wonderful close-knit community in Lochgelly and set a great example of a school that really cares about the future of its pupils.
“Your teachers at this age can have a huge influence on your life and I said to the kids this morning that they should listen and learn as much as they can while they’re at school.
“I can still remember being inspired and encouraged by the teachers here and I would say that it doesn’t matter what school you go to, or where you come from, if you work hard you can do whatever you want to do. That’s a lesson that’s worth learning!”
Headteacher Janice Davidson commented: “It was great to see Jim here at the school – the kids were really excited to hear about his football career and his new role as Provost for Fife.”
