BBC Live at Energy Park Fife

Archived news: published on Friday 29 Jan 2010 by Fife Council

Results published today have shown that the UK economy has moved out of recession after growing by 0.1% in the last 3 months of 2009.  BBC News Channel is covering the economy all day and has planned live broadcasts every hour from the Energy Park in Methil.

Energy Park Fife has been chosen because it’s a place that has suffered previous decline and is now in an excellent position to grow out of recession with new ‘green’ jobs from the opportunity presented by renewable energy. This follows the recent announcement by The Crown Estate for five offshore wind farm developments and could lead to over 1,000 turbines off the coast of Fife.

BBC News Business Editor Douglas Fraser interviewed Keith Winter, Head of Development Services who commented on the impact the recession has had; “Although we are officially out of recession there are still a lot of companies and families who are feeling the effects of the recession. It’s now important that we grasp new opportunities, like those presented by Renewable Energy, to ensure the recovery is sustainable. The Energy Park is ideally placed to capture a significant proportion of the new jobs and investment that will come as the UK moves towards a low carbon economy.”

Other interviewees included Cllr. Tony Martin, Strategic Chair of Fife Council’s Environment, Enterprise & Transportation Committee,  Pamela Woodburn, Director Business Infrastructure in the East of Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Neil Henderson from Burntisland Fabrications and Duncan Engineering.
