People in Fife are being urged to nominate their local schools, nurseries or individuals who have excelled in their field of education as part of the Scottish Education Awards 2010.

The awards, which celebrate the achievements of pupils and teachers in Scotland, were launched this week by Education Secretary Michael Russell.

Mr Russell said: “There is fantastic work going on in schools the length and breadth of Scotland and many achievements that should be recognised and celebrated.

“This could be an innovative way of helping learners develop core skills such as literacy, or imaginative projects to teach pupils about issues such as enterprise or climate change.

“The Scottish Education Awards are about finding, highlighting and praising the success of staff, pupils and schools across 15 different key areas.

"The strength of both winners and applications from last year shows the world class nature of Scottish education.

“I hope schools, parents, pupils and teachers across Scotland will be inspired to think about what they’re doing that could be a good example to others. So if you think your school has got the “x factor” get online and nominate your school for the Scottish Education Awards.”

Local people in Fife are being urged to shout about their school to reward and celebrate best practice in the classroom and give recognition to dedicated individuals who have helped young people fulfil their learning potential.

The Scottish Education Awards 2010 are open to all publicly funded schools, including secondary, primary, nursery and special schools. There are also categories that recognise the contributions of teachers, headteachers and support staff.

The awards will seek to find the best projects from across Scotland in 15 categories including Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and Numeracy across Learning, Sustainable School and Teacher of the Year.
