Riverside Park play area opened
Children from Collydean Primary School formally opened the new play equipment recently installed at Riverside Park as part of the ‘UR Park U Decide’ Project. Liam Dahlquist and Callum Macaully had the honour of cutting the ribbon with Councillor William Kay. Wednesday (30 May).
The project involved all the primary schools in Glenrothes, who were asked to participate in the project by selecting the play equipment pieces, deciding on the location within the park and saw some of them cutting the first ‘sod’.
The children voted on a selection of identified pieces using 'coloured' dots to determine which they preferred. Representatives from each school were invited along to a discussion evening where they were given the outcome of the voting and told how much it would cost. The initial selection left funding for additional equipment so the children voted electronically on which extra pieces to use.
In July, 27 – 29, the park will play host to the ‘Riverside Park Festival’ which is three days of family fun, sports and crafts. This event will act as a showcase for the park to encourage more people into the area. This new equipment is located next to the event site and will act as an additional attraction for families.
Councillor William Kay said “The ‘UR Park U Decide’ Project has proved to be a great success. Involving the community, especially the youngsters in the process has given them a sense of ownership and responsibility. Fife Council has invested £60,000 into this project which is aimed at attracting more people into the centre of Glenrothes and promoting the range of activities we have to offer.”
