Keeping the Kingdom's roads safe this festive season

Fifers have been given a reassurance Fife Council is working hard to keep the Kingdom’s roads safe this festive season.
Dr Bob McLellan, Fife Council Head of Transportation, has revealed prolonged severe weather has resulted in significant winter maintenance programme over the last two weeks in the Kingdom.
He said: “We have been facing the worst weather conditions in 20 years but I want to reassure people we have a full winter standby system in place to deal with the worst of the winter weather. This includes 23 bulk gritters ready at any time to tackle over 1400 km of

“We ordered enough salt in November to ensure we would have maximum salt stock levels for Christmas. But unfortunately, due to a delay in that delivery, which arrived just before Christmas, and mounting pressures on our supplier from other areas of the
“Although we received the remaining salt today (Tuesday) this disruption from the supplier has meant our salt reserves are running lower than we would have anticipated.
“But, I’d like to emphasise we are doing everything we can to source additional salt and continue to ensure we maximise our existing stock levels.
“The safety of people travelling on our roads is paramount to us and although we don’t want to raise alarm, we felt we should let the public know our present situation, whilst emphasising we are pulling out all the stops to ensure our stock levels return to expected levels as soon as possible.”
