Responding to the claims of a lack of effort by Fife Council during this period of severe weather, Councillor Tony Martin Chair of
“We have had limited salt supplies delivered this morning through no fault of our own. If our complete order had been fulfilled and we had more salt delivered, we would have been able to grit the residential roads that are known as priority three. However, with the reduced levels of salt, we will attempt to distribute coarse sand on these roads tomorrow. The priority one and two roads have been pre-gritted afternoon and morning with 24 gritters in action throughout
“I realise that it is difficult for many people to get out and about their business, but they should be aware that we are doing all in our power to make sure the roads are safe to travel on.
“As far as the bin collections are concerned, it’s been impossible in some places to collect the waste during the severe weather. People should present their bins for collection on the next scheduled date. The refuse that cannot go into the grey bins should go into plastic bags. The extremely low temperatures mean that there is no hazard to health or risk of smells and vermin. Those who can, should take their refuse to a local recycling centre if possible.
“We recognise that difficulties that residents are having but wish to assure Fife’s residents that Fife Council’s maintenance teams are continuing to work hard extremely through this difficult period of severe weather and hope that they will show their cooperation.”
