Councillor Kay Carrington, executive member for Fife Council’s Business, Enterprise, Economy and Planning welcomed the new contract for BiFab.  She said:

“Today’s announcement is excellent news for BiFab and further good news for the Energy Park in Methil."

“The contract will mean another 350 jobs created at BiFab's Methil facility, which will see the construction of a huge jacket and topside for the Premier Oil Solan project off the west of Shetland.  These will be some of the largest structures produced at the facility since the 1980s."

“I visited BiFab in June and was impressed by their facility and their ambitious plans for the future.  Today’s news is a real vote of confidence in the company and further good news for the Energy Park Fife which has a track record in delivering the biggest projects for both Renewables and Oil and Gas sectors.”

The contract for the 8000 tonne jacket and 3500 tonne topside is worth £145m and is due for completion in Spring 2014.
