Glen Pavilion extension April 2012
Work on the extension to the Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline is on schedule for opening early this summer. The new facility will provide a long awaited place for park visitors to relax and refuel all year round.
The ’Peacock Rooms’ will be a bright, welcoming space. Design features include large windows on two sides, opening on to a south and west facing terrace, allowing fantastic views across the park and beyond. There will also be a children’s play space. It will be open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm and will also be available for hire in the evenings.
Angus Thomson, Senior Manager for Catering said, “We are really looking forward to opening this fantastic new facility. We have provided a limited café service for several years but now we will be able to offer so much more and we know from customer feedback that the demand is definitely there. We will be offering a tempting selection of food and drinks throughout the day and we hope the Peacock Rooms will become a favourite place for both locals and visitors to Dunfermline.”
Park owners, the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust have given a substantial grant to fund the new facility and make other improvements to the Glen Pavilion, and this has been supplemented by funding from Fife Council.
Bill Livingstone, Carnegie Dunfermline Trust Chairman said, “The trustees are delighted to be making this major investment with our partners, Fife Council, as part of our ambition to re-establish the Glen as one of Scotland’s top visitor attractions and to see its facilities enhanced for the many families who visit the park on a regular basis.”
The Pavilion is already a successful business, its parkland setting making it a popular venue for weddings, dinners, conferences, community and other events. It is run by Fife Council’s Catering & Cleaning Service with profits being re-invested in the facility and the park.
