MARKINCH PLAYGROUP - GREATNESS IS NOT WHERE WE STAND BUT IN THE DIRECTION WE ARE MOVING

Markinch Playgroup has been in existence since 1978 and currently operates from the 252 Memorial Hall which belongs to the Uniformed Organisations of the village of Markinch.

The Playgroup became H.M.I.E registered in June 2001 and works in Partnership with Fife Council; we are also registered with the Care Commission.

We are members of the SPPA and have links with Adam Smith College through students on placement and Special Education Programme students.

C.S.N.I.P.S have, in the past, provided a play-friend.

The group is managed by a Committee of parents, carers and volunteers who are elected annually at our A.G.M. 

CURRICULUM

Although we accept children from 2yrs 10months, it is not until your child turns 3yrs old that he/she will begin the first stage of the National Curriculum referred to as the foundation stage, which focuses on the distinct learning needs of children aged 3-5 years.

Our daily sessions are extremely varied and focused on the early learning goals provided by the Government with the emphasis on learning through play.

These goals cover five main areas of young children's development and learning which we aim to cover through a wide spectrum of activities in every session.

The five areas covered are;

>  Emotional, personal and social development.

>  Knowledge and understanding of the world.

>  Physical development and movement.

>  Expressive and aesthetic development.

>  Communication and language.

FUND RAISING

Businesses, both local and further afield contribute not only to the fund raising events the group have but support the group by supplying their services and/or products free of charge.

Each year children/parents are encouraged to participate in a National Charity Fundraising event.

The playgroup children are made aware of the hardships of those of different countries/cultures with the help of the Play Leaders and through our ongoing sponsorship of a child from Action Aid.
