Dunino Primary School was built in the early 1800s and extended in the early 1900s. It is a co-educational, non-denominational, small village school. The local, rural environment of the school is enhanced by the school garden which is designed for play and relaxation and by the close proximity of Dunino Den which is used to enhance the curriculum.
The building houses one large classroom which accommodates all that goes on in school. There is 1 teacher at present teaching 8 children in P1 – 7. A controlled entry system operates on all external doors. As space and facilities are limited for Physical Education, games are done in the garden area, when weather permits, and the pupils are transported to Kingsbarns Primary School weekly so that we can use the facilities there.
Our aim is to create an ethos within the school environment where pupils, parents and staff work together in partnership to provide the highest possible standard of education for all pupils.
The Expressive Arts curriculum is enhanced by visits from Music, Drama, PE and Art and Design specialists. Our Learning Support teacher visits us one morning per week.
The school is an Eco School having gained a third flag in May 2002 and the Eco Committee meets regularly to discuss environmental concerns and issues raised by the pupils. As the school roll is small we do not have Pupil Council. However, at our regular whole school Circle Time we all discuss any other concerns and issues raised by the pupils.
A residential programme at Ardroy Outdoor Centre is offered to P7 pupils. They share this experience with pupils from Balmerino, Strathkinness, Guardbridge and Kingsbarns Primary Schools. Our extra curricular programme includes gardening, recorder, computer and an after school club which operates once a week.
We are always pleased to meet with parents or guardians who wish to discuss any aspects of our school.
