Primary School

Cowdenbeath Primary School was built in 1876, extended in 1902 and refurbished in 1929. The school is co educational, non-denominational and one of three primary schools in Cowdenbeath.

The school has 9 primary classes and a nursery class offering morning or afternoon places to three and four year olds. A central hall is used for PE and also serves as dining hall. Our computer suite is fully operational and music and drama activities take place in our general purpose room.

At Cowdenbeath we aim to maintain a positive ethos where everyone is valued and respected and where pupils, parents and staff work hard to ensure high quality teaching and learning.

We have a full time Support for Learning Teacher. The school also benefits from the skills of an extensive support team of classroom assistants, nursery nurses, auxiliary, janitorial and administrative staff. Specialist teachers of music, drama and PE make valuable contributions to our Expressive Arts curriculum. At Cowdenbeath we believe it is important to build self esteem and confidence in our pupils. Classes are encouraged to enter Fife Festivals of Music and Dance. Our extra curricular activities include a Homework, Football, Netball and Science Clubs.

We believe it is important to involve pupils, parents and all staff in the life of our school. The Pupil Council meets regularly to discuss school issues. Ours Parents Association is very active and supports the school in many ways throughout the year and we are working hard to re-establish and effective School Board.
