Dairsie Primary School was opened in 1970. It is a co-educational, non-denominational school and serves the village of Dairsie and surrounding country area in North East Fife. The school is attractively situated on the edge of the village and has an open aspect to the West overlooking farmland. Pupils benefit from both a tarmac playground and a garden area. There are areas outside where pupils can work in fine weather.
The school houses 3 classrooms, all fully equipped in line with modern trends in education. The school is very well equipped with ICT equipment which is situated in the two main classrooms. The third classroom is used for Learning Support, Music, TV/Video and Design and Technology activities. There is also a well-equipped library and various office accommodation. In the Dining Hall, meals are served and cooked in the school's own kitchen.
The school has 44 pupils at present and there is a high staff/pupil ratio. The staff work as a team and all, both teaching and support staff, are strongly committed to meeting the children's needs, raising attainment and allowing all pupils to participate fully in all aspects of school life.
There is an active and very supportive Parent Council. We also have a Pupil Council who contribute their comments and ideas to school initiatives. They are also responsible for organising parties and charity fund raising events. The Eco committee has working hard to ensure that the school gained second green flag and that this work is embedded in the life of the school. We offer a rangeof Afterschool Clubs and some children take advantage of the After School Care available at Balmullo Primary. Primary six and seven pupils all have the opportunity to take part in a residential experience at Ardroy Centre.
Our aim is to create an ethos within the school environment where pupils, parents and staff work together in partnership to provide the highest possible standard of education for all pupils. Parents, pupils and staff are very proud of the overwhelmingly positive comments made in the HMIE report published on 18th February 2003 which has rated the school highly.
The Expressive Arts curriculum is enhanced by visits from Music, Drama, P.E. and Art specialists. Pupils participte in The Scottish Country Dance Festival and the Creative Dance Festival. Taster sessions are offered in a range of sports.
We are happy to welcome interested young people and their parents to view our school.
