Located next to the Museum and Art Gallery in the War Memorial Gardens, Kirkcaldy Central Library is easily reached by public transport and is within easy walking distance of railway and bus stations.
It was gifted to the town in 1928 by John Nairn of the linoleum manufacturing family and is one of the biggest and busiest libraries in Fife, providing the resources and facilities to support a variety of reading, learning and information needs. There is a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for lending, including large print and talking book formats. It has a comprehensive stock of reference, local and family history resources. Scottish and European Parliament publications are also available.
There is a separate children’s room with books to suit all reading ages and abilities. Occasional storytimes for 3-8 year olds and other activities for younger children are held throughout the year.
Computers with free access to Microsoft Office software and the Internet are available and beginners can sign up for regular Taster Sessions.
An adult reading group meets monthly to enjoy a shared love of reading over a glass of wine. Ask our staff for more details.
