Bin collection trials

We are trialling two new waste collection patterns - one in Markinch and Coaltown of Balgonie and another in Thornton and Stenton, Glenrothes. In response to customer feedback, recycling bins are emptied more often. And, in a bid to cut landfill costs, your landfill bins are emptied less often.

Find out more about both bin collection trials by visiting our pages below.

The bin collection trials will be extended while Resource Efficient Solutions, Fife Council’s arms-length company, which runs and monitor the bin trials, analyses the information gathered over the last year.

Resource Efficient Solutions will be analysing information including the:

  • amount of landfill waste and recycling collected
  • change in the number of people using recycling bins
  • results of our bin trial survey
  • amount of recyclable waste placed in landfill bins
  • change in the amount of material taken to Recycling Centres
  • Illegal dumping and pest complaints
  • number of bins containing the wrong items
  • number of raised bin lids and waste presented beside bins

The results will be presented to the Environment and Transport Policy Action Group before it is submitted to the council’s Executive Committee for a final decision

New bin calendars will be delivered to households in early September and can be found on the Markinch and Coaltown of Balgonie and Thornton and Stenton, Glenrothes trial pages.
