Employees who have attained 25 or 40 years continuous service are awarded for their contribution and effort with Long Service Awards.

Any continuous local government service including the local authorities in Fife prior to local government re-organisation in April 1996 i.e. Fife Regional Council, Kirkcaldy, North East Fife and Dunfermline District Councils, Glenrothes Development Corporation, Water Boards as well as service from any other local authority counts towards the award.


The award will take the form of additional leave (5 days on achieving 25 years service and 10 days on achieving 40 years service) which the employee must take in the 12 calendar months following upon the completion of their 25th or 40th anniversary of service to the Council or a net payment of £250 (25 years) or £500 (40 years). Either form of the award is a 'one off' additional benefit. Some employees can choose but others e.g. teachers and term time workers, because of the difficulty to the Service in taking additional leave, will receive the money. All eligible employees will receive an inscribed certificate.


From October 2016, services and employees will be contacted automatically based on service dates held in our payroll system. Your manager will discuss options with you and you will receive guidance on what to do next. If you think you are due an award but have not been contacted, please speak to your line manager to request a file check.
