Electronic signs at schools
In recent years we have seen the introduction of many electronic warning signs around our schools. These signs are in place to improve safety around school for all road users, and in particular those more vulnerable road users accessing Fife's Schools.
Where a school is on a main road permanent speed restrictions may be undesireable as traffic flows could be negatively affected. In order to ensure we can maintain traffic flow, but still ensure safety around schools part time 20mph limits have been installed. These work by the use of electronic signs which signal when the reduced speed limit is in operation. These signs can be programmed so that they are only operational during times when people will be entering or leaving the school.
On roads where these signs are used the rediced speed limit of 20mph is mandatory and must be obayed. Failure to do so can result in a fixed penalty and opints being applied. Whilst travelling past any school drivers should slow down and take extra care.
