Sample September’s Right Guid Reads

There’s so many great reads around at the moment that it was difficult to decide what to choose for this month’s Right Guid Read. I always have a ‘Must Read’ list of books, half of which I never get round to reading. If you’re like me, narrow down your list by choosing some of the recommendations in A Right Guid Read – this month there’s something for all tastes.
If historical fiction’s your idea of a perfect read, then you’re certainly in for a treat. Barbara Kingsolver returns with The Lacuna while Helen Dunmore’s tale of post war soviet Russia, The Betrayal was hard to put down. Another post war saga, this time post world war two features in Anita Diamant’s Day after Night and Rose Tremain’s vivid depiction of 19th century New Zealand in The Colour finishes up this quartet of historical reads. For the crime buffs, there’s also a historical slant with the investigation of a death in 17th century Scotland in Douglas Watt’s Death of a Chief. If you like something a bit more contemporary then Bryan Lee O,Malley’s first volume of the Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels, is worth a read or Austin Wright’s Tony and Susan which has had rave reviews.
This month’s What’s New features a disturbing yet compulsive tale of a boy and his mother and their life in Room, by Emma Donoghue. Peter Robinson brings us the latest title in his Inspector Banks series, Bad Boy while Karl Marlantes’ bestseller Matterhorn transports you to Vietnam and Barbara Erskine’s Time Legacy  guarantees A Right Guid Read!

Whatever you choose to read this month, I hope you find A Right Guid Read.
