Reading is fun

Joining the library is absolutely free, and you can join at any age, even just a few weeks old.  It's easy to join, just pop into your local library or join online. There are lots of books to choose from, for all ages, and free to borrow.  There are story books and information books of all kinds on the shelves, and all libraries have separate Teenage sections. 

You can book computers and search the Internet free as well.

Many libraries also lend talking books on Cassettes and CDs and MP3, and some have Large Print book collections.  DVDs can be borrowed as well for a small charge.  You can check on the library computer catalogue to see what is available.

If you can’t find what you want, the staff will help you, and you can make free requests for items that are not in your own library.  Everything can be borrowed for up to three weeks, and longer if necessary.

Pirates Ahoy!

All through the year, there are events, author visits, competitions and activities taking place in libraries – just ask the staff or look out for posters.  Templehall and Glenwood Libraries have monthly after-hours clubs for ages 8-16 in their area.

If you’d like to get together with other readers to talk about what you’ve read, try different books and share your favourites you can join one of our Book Groups for Kids.  They can take place in the library, at home or in school.
