Planning legislation

Planning legislation guidance
Scotland’s planning system is undergoing the most significant modernisation in over 60 years. The new legislation is designed to make the planning system more efficient and consultative.
It is designed to increase the level of involvement with communities. Consultation will take place with communities before planning applications are submitted on national and major proposals.
Further information relating to the key changes can be found in our list of publications at the bottom of this page.
