Sheltered housing

Fife Council has 48 sheltered housing developments across Fife, providing over 1000 safe and secure tenancies. Through them, we offer two levels of support:

Sheltered housing
Intended for people who can live independently with some help and support. Each development has a sheltered housing officer who regularly checks how you are either in person or through the intercom system. The officer is on duty from 9 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday. The dedicated response service provides back-up the rest of the time.

Very sheltered housing
For people who need more supported living. These developments have two sheltered housing officers who contact you on a daily basis either by personal visit or through our intercom system. Very sheltered housing also provides an optional meals service.

Who is eligible for sheltered or very sheltered housing?
You may be eligible if you:

  • have reached the age of 60; and
  • are capable of independent living with housing, social work or health care support.

If you would like to apply for sheltered housing, or would just like some more information, please contact your local services centre. You can locate your nearest Local Services Centre by using the 'find my nearest' search facility on this page.
