Archives
The Archive Centre looks after documents covering the last 500 years of Fife history.
This includes the minute books of Fife Council and records of the other official bodies that have been maintaining roads and dealing with other county wide issues since 1709.
All sorts of different people appear in the records including schoolteachers and pupils, coal miners, and even witches.
Our main role is to ensure the permanent preservation of the records and to make them available to members of the public at the Archive Centre.
You can make enquiries using the online archives catalogue search to see the sort of records we hold or to look for something specific.
Or you are welcome to visit our centre - we are open to the public from Monday to Friday between 9am - 12 noon and 1pm - 5pm (by appointment).
On your first vist you will be asked to bring proof of id so that we can register you as a reader. We can arrange to stay open until 7.15pm on Tuesdays (as long as this has been arranged in advance with the Archivist).
Some of the Council's archive records are stored elsewhere at Libraries, Museums and other Council buildings - ask staff for further details.

Access to the Ancestry website is available for free in Kirkcaldy Central, Dunfermline Carnegie, Cupar and Methil Libraries to help you research your family history.
