Paying council tax, rent and other bills

There are several ways in which to pay your council tax, rent and other bills.

 
Direct Debit
If you have a bank or building society account, you can pay your Council bills by Direct Debit - a quick, easy and convenient way to pay. Not only is this payment method the easiest, it also provides you with a guarantee of payment.  
 
If you would like to pay your council tax by Direct Debit please call 08451 55 11 55 or download the Direct Debit Mandate from this page and follow the instructions.
 
Services payable by Direct Debit include any recurring payments, for example:
 
  • Commercial lets
  • Commercial waste collection
  • Council housing rent
  • Council tax
  • Home care charges
  • Lock-up rents
  • Non-domestic rates. 

Telephone payments
You can also pay for some council services over the phone, either through our automated payments 08451 55 00 55 or directly when arranging a service. A debit or credit card* is required (*there will be a charge of 1.25% for credit card payments).

Online payments
You can also currently pay for some Council services online, including:

  • Council Tax Payment. 
  • Invoices Payment.  
  • Benefit Overpayment Payment.  
  • Homecare Payment.  
  • Non Domestic Rates Payment.  
  • Housing Rents Payment  
  • Home Insurance Payment
  • Booking of theatre tickets - onfife.com  

To pay online you will need your reference number, and credit card details.

 
Standing Order
You need to complete a new form and take it your bank every time there is a change to your payment. New standing order forms are enclosed with your council tax bill.  Standing orders are similar to direct debit with the exception that:
  • New forms must be completed every time there is a change to payment details
  • There is no immediate money-back guarantee in the event of a bank error.

Post Office and PayPoint
There are around 250 PayPoint outlets across Fife that will now accept payment of Council bills:

  • You can pay your rent, garage charges and contents insurance with your payment card at any Post Office or PayPoint .
  • If your Council bill is barcoded, you can pay it at Post Offices and PayPoint outlets across Fife. Many PayPoint outlets are open from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week so you don't have to wait until the payment date to make your payment.

Postal payments
Cheques should be crossed and made payable to 'Fife Council' and sent to: Income Control Team, Fife Council, North Street, Glenrothes, KY7 5LT. 
 
Please ensure you include your payments reference on the back of your cheque. Failure to do so may result in your payment not being allocated to your account. Please allow 7 working days when sending cheque payments by post to Fife House.  *please do not send cash by post.
