Community Support Service

Social Work Community Support Service

The Social Work Community Support Service offers a service to adults between the ages of 16 & 65 with learning disability, physical disability, sensory impairments, autistic spectrum disorders and other related issues.  This could take place during the day, in the evenings or weekends.

A Community Support Service is based within the local community where you live.  We will offer support to allow you to participate in activities you would like to do.  This could take place in Community Centres, Sports Centres, Cinemas, Theatres or anywhere else you would like to go!

We have bases in Cupar (Dalgairn), Leven (Robert Gough), Kirkcaldy (St Clair), Glenrothes (Forward Centre), Cowdenbeath (WFCSS Main Office Base) and Dunfermline (Grange).

Fife is covered by three groups within the Community Support Service (If you are unsure which area you would come under, please feel free to contact one of the Community Support Managers as shown in the contacts at the bottom of this page);

  • East which covers Cupar, Leven and all of the North East Fife area
  • Central which covers the Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes area
  • West which covers Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline and the West Fife Villages

What can I expect from a Community Support Service?

We will start off by getting to know you as a person, and then look at what kind of activities you would like to do.  We will also look at what specific needs you may have and how we can meet them.  For example if you need assistance with personal care etc.  We will work with you to plan what you would like to do while you are with us.  We will then follow this plan as much as we can to make sure you can do the things you want to, at a time that suits you!  We call this a ‘Person Centred Approach.’

How can I access this service?

You will need to have a Social Worker who will complete the assessment we need to let us see if we can offer you a service.  Based on this assessment, we will work with you to develop a support plan that tells us how we can meet your needs.

You can also arrange a visit to see us.  If you would like to do this, the contact details are at the bottom of this page.

Employment via the Community Support Service

We work closely with our colleagues in the Social Work Supported Employment Service.  People from SWSES are based within our office bases and they will help you to find a job if this is what you want to do.
